Hybrid working in higher education

19 January 2022

As we recover from another difficult year, I think we can be forgiven for thinking that there a few more mountains to climb yet.

It’s entirely possible that enforced remote learning will make a comeback. The real winners will be those who, throughout the pandemic, worked to embed agility into their operating models.

RSM has identified three key tasks for the higher education sector that will help it to achieve full flexibility:

  1. Address traditional staffing contracts and working arrangements to provide greater ‘liquidity of learning.’ Consider hybrid working approaches and a mixture of different types of skillsets so that research, teaching and student experience are all covered effectively.
  2. Ensure that diversity and inclusion continues to underpin ways of working and access to education, including for neurodiverse learners and learners with different learning needs and preferences.
  3. Keep focusing on the wellbeing of staff and students so that everyone can achieve the future they’re working towards.
