2023

Health of the Sector

A lot has changed in the sector over the last year. At the start of 2022, housing associations were having to consider issues around access to, and rising costs of materials. Fast forward a year and it’s now the cost-of-living crisis that’s having one of the greatest impacts. Of those that responded to our sector survey in November, 94% said that increased inflation was affecting their organisation the most, while 71% said they were worried about rising intertest rates.

Economic uncertainty, as well as financial considerations, including staff salaries and enhanced wellbeing support for tenants, will all factor into operational and developmental plans.

Amidst the cost-of-living crisis, our survey respondents say they feel heightened responsibility for tenant wellbeing, with 99% of respondents saying they feel the need to support their tenants at this time.

Meanwhile, the growing focus on being greener and reducing emissions was evident, with 39% of organisations saying they see renewable energy as an opportunity for new income.
