Biography

Andy is a VAT Director with over 27 years’ experience of working in VAT. He focusses on advising corporate, internationally-focused clients with complex supply chains to ensure that VAT compliance requirements are identified, appropriate indirect tax risks mitigated, and efficiencies achieved. He also works with RSM International member firms to build up a strong network of international indirect tax colleagues to share information and targets opportunities to provide global indirect tax solutions.

Andy joined RSM in October 2004 having previously worked in a big 4 firm for 8 years. Previously he was an officer at HMRC for six years, assisting businesses with little or no experience of VAT issues. He currently works with a major US listed hotel operator to develop and co-ordinate delivery of a pan European VAT training programme with a particular focus on VAT issues impacting on the hotel sector. This has resulted in identification of VAT efficiencies and opportunities for repayments of overdeclared VAT.

Andy’s clients have included property developers, construction businesses, retailers, manufacturers, logistics, telecommunications, bars and restaurant providers. He has provided VAT advice on a number of business refinancing and restructuring transactions including stock market floats, AIM listings etc.

He has recently delivered a series of high profile seminars and presentations in the Middle East to local businesses, in connection with the planned implementation of VAT across the Gulf Cooperation Council States from 2018. Andy writes and presents regularly on topical international VAT issues and is an associate of the Chartered Institute of Taxation. He has contributed articles for the Tax Journal, local business press and trade magazines regarding pertinent VAT issues and spoken at a number of external events representing RSM, including recently at the French Embassy in Muscat, Oman.
