About James Atkinson
James is a Partner in RSM’s Deal Services team, specialising in mergers and acquisitions across the industrials sector. He works closely with owner-managed and private businesses to help them sell companies, raise equity finance, complete management buyouts and deliver strategic acquisitions.
James is particularly passionate about working with owner managers, taking the time to understand their story, what they’ve built and what matters most to them. He recognises that many transactions are once-in-a-lifetime moments and focuses on finding the right outcome for each client, not just the right deal.
James began his career at RSM in 2011 in audit before moving into M&A in 2015, where he has built deep sector expertise in industrials, combining technical deal experience with a pragmatic, relationship-led approach.
“What I enjoy most is getting under the skin of a business and the people behind it. Every company has its own story, and no two deals are the same. Being part of such a significant moment for a client and helping them achieve the right outcome is incredibly rewarding.”
Outside of work, James enjoys spending time with family and friends, running and playing golf. He is also a keen Liverpool FC supporter, something he admits isn’t always the most relaxing pastime, and is kept busy at weekends chasing after his two young boys.
