About Charlie Barnes

Charlie Barnes leads the employment legal team, partnering with businesses to provide proactive and practical solutions to workforce risks and legal compliance. Charlie’s team specialises in:

  • Fair work and pay audits, implementing systems that mitigate legal compliance risks on working time, national minimum wage (NMW), holiday pay, equal pay and pension auto-enrolment, all of which support businesses’ reward and incentivisation strategies.
  • Working with businesses to establish efficient organisational structures and labour supply chains that support growth plans while mitigating legal compliance costs and litigation risks.
  • Guiding businesses through complex workplace investigations, disputes and tribunal claims, strategically aiming to mitigate workplace disruption, reputational harm or financial loss.

Charlie joined RSM from leading national law firm Shoosmiths, where he specialised in employment tribunals and dispute resolution, organisational change, and providing day-to-day advice to HR directors and people teams.

“Our role as professional advisers is to identify the critical issues impacting our clients and help them find practical solutions to keep their growth and strategic plans on track. I find that hugely rewarding. I enjoy the challenge of building our legal services offering and the great satisfaction that comes with developing the talented people within our team.”

Away from work, Charlie enjoys spending time with his family, ferrying his sons to football, dodgeball and swimming, and when time allows, getting in a few games of cricket.

Charlie's RSM timeline:

  • 2023: promoted to Head of Employment Legal
  • 2020: promoted to Legal Director
  • 2017: joined RSM UK as Associate Director
