Social care reform is about more than just funding

“The Prime Minister's focus on social care reform reinforces the direction set out in the NHS's long-term ambition to shift towards prevention, early intervention and care delivered closer to home. Much of the debate has focused on funding and workforce reform, but the wider challenge is creating a sustainable system that delivers high-quality care, supports independence of communities and makes effective use of resources across the health and care landscape.
“As the NHS aims to move more care into the community, providers across the public, private and not-for-profit sectors all have a critical role to play. Independent providers bring essential capacity, investment and innovation to the sector, while charities and community organisations provide vital local services that support people before needs escalate and help reduce pressure on NHS services.
“Social care reform is about more than just funding care. It is about creating a sustainable, integrated health and care system that improves outcomes, enables people to live independently for longer and supports prevention and population health. Success hinges on effective collaboration between government, the NHS, local authorities and providers across the entire care ecosystem."
