What would a world without tax havens look like?

To coincide with start of the UK Government’s anti-corruption summit in London this week, Oxfam has coordinated a letter from 300 leading economists warning world leaders that there is no economic justification for allowing tax havens. So could the result be a tax haven-free utopia, or is it more a case of ‘be careful what you wish for’?

Digital by default – penalising rural taxpayers

We know that HMRC is increasingly encouraging taxpayers to process their tax information online, it’s simpler and means you can sort all your tax affairs out without leaving your comfy chair. But now we hear that the government won’t be automatically rolling out broadband to parts of the UK that haven’t already got broadband services. So could this lead to taxpayers – and in particular taxpayers in rural areas – being penalised by the taxman?
