RSM is predicting that official figures, due to be published next week, will show a 10 per cent rise in annual personal insolvency rates in England and Wales, reaching the highest level for six years.

While overall personal insolvencies fell in the quarter to 30 September 2018 by 2.5 per cent compared to the same period in 2017, the rise in creditor-petitioned bankruptcies suggests that creditors are getting tougher on problem debtors.

The number of people entering a formal personal insolvency process is at its highest quarterly level for over six years, according to new official figures published today.

The number of people entering personal insolvency is at its highest level for over five years. The figures released by the Insolvency Service today reveal that there were 27,388 individuals entering either bankruptcy, a debt relief order or an individual voluntary arrangement, the highest number since Quarter 3 of 2012.
