NHS England has announced that clinicians affected by an NHS pensions Annual Allowance tax charge for the 2019/20 tax year would have any tax payable reimbursed to them on retirement. They may have been hoping for a positive reception to the plans but doctors remain wary.

Ministers appear to have agreed to a short-term fix to the NHS pensions crisis amid concerns about the impact on waiting times. However, the uptake of the new concession may be low because of heavy bureaucracy. Wouldn’t it be simpler if the annual allowance taper was abolished for everybody?

The domestic reverse charge for the Construction Industry Scheme will be introduced along with the kick-off of Making Tax Digital for some organisations. The most recent announcement looks set to increase the cost of energy-saving measures.
