The majority of Scottish charities believe a kitemark for good governance would help to increase public confidence in the charity sector.

Increased competition for funding continues to be a major challenge for charities, highlighting pressure on cashflow and future services which could hit those most in need across the UK. The statistics, taken from RSM’s Funding and Functionality report, highlighted that over half of the respondents (60 per cent) view the competition for funding as a significant challenge for the sector; followed by a quarter stating that the stricter application of criteria when applying for funds as a key barrier.

The majority of charities have managed to come through a tough decade, if not unscathed, certainly unbowed but the potential hurdles they face over the next one are lining up. These include data protection rules, increased regulation of fundraising, renewed focus on governance standards and Brexit, to name but a few.
Marc recently joined RSM with an aim to increase our footprint in the internal audit market in Scotland and build an internal audit team that will be based in Scotland.
