Biography

Tim acts for a wide variety of businesses, particularly successful family companies. Whilst much of Tim’s work relates to family businesses and wealthy individuals, Tim’s particular area of interest has been the use of partnerships and LLPs as tax efficient and commercially flexible structures. He is well known throughout RSM for his LLP expertise and is regularly consulted by other offices around the LLP on LLP matters.

A further area of interest is what Tim calls the ‘Real Rate of Tax’. He will happily explain how 20 per cent, 40 per cent and 45 per cent tax rates are often a massive oversimplification and is expert at ensuring the most efficient real rate is attracted whenever possible.

When asked what he enjoys about his job, Tim says:

It is the variety of work that I really enjoy. Helping a wide variety of interesting and successful people get their tax right is the biggest priority. However, where possible, it is great to ensure the right amount of tax is also less than it might be without a bit of thought going into the situation.

Outside of work, Tim enjoys playing golf (he says exceptionally badly), food, wine and travel. Tim has 5 children and 4 grandchildren and considers himself very fortunate that they all live locally, and he is able to see them very often. Tim was very honoured to be appointed a Knight of the Pontifical Order of Saint Sylvester by Pope Benedict XVI in 2008.

Tim’s RSM timeline:

  • 2004: elected to Senior Partner
  • 1991: became Partner
  • 1990: joined RSM predecessor firm
