Biography

Matt is an associate director in RSM’s Accounting and business advisory service.  He has almost 20 years’ experience in research and evaluation projects for the not-for-profit sector, helping clients deliver effective services and maximise value for money.

Matt is an experienced researcher and project manager.  He designs surveys of businesses to establish the benefits of publicly funded initiatives, and detailed qualitative research with programme managers and stakeholders.

Matt has a strong research interest in how universities and businesses collaborate to develop new products and services and increase productivity, and is responsible for engaging with universities to deliver economics consulting’s Education strategy.

Matt has managed research and consultancy projects for central government departments and agencies, local government, Local Enterprise Partnerships, universities, and NHS trusts.  His work includes:

  • evaluations of publicly-funded projects, such as Grants for Research and Development (for BEIS) and the Higher Education Innovation Fund (for HEFCE);
  • research to support strategy development for local and national government and universities;
  • economic and social impact assessments for universities and local government; and
  • economic intelligence and forecasting: local economic profiling, employment land studies, and sector profiles.

Matt’s recent published work includes a report for HEFCE on the state of the English university knowledge exchange landscape and research for BEIS into issues around the commercialization of university intellectual property.
