About Joe Hessey

Joe Hessey is an Audit Director. He specialises in working with technology, software, video games, private equity-backed businesses and international groups, providing businesses with valuable sector insights. As National Industry Excellence Lead for Technology & Media, he provides thought leadership and develops sector-focused audit approaches that enhance audit quality, improve consistency and drive efficiencies across the firm's audit practice. He is passionate about developing people, coaching and building teams with the skills and sector expertise.

Joe joined RSM in 2013 and qualified in 2016 before moving into industry in a Financial Controller role. He returned to RSM in April 2020, becoming a Responsible Individual (RI) in October 2024. Joe combines his experience gained in both practice and industry to support clients.

I have always had a genuine interest in technology, so working with innovative businesses across the Technology & Media sector is something I really enjoy. I love getting to know people and building long-term relationships, usually over a coffee (and cake). Helping clients navigate growth, change and new opportunities is another aspect of the role that I find particularly rewarding."

Outside of work, Joe spends most of his time with his family and young daughter. When he gets a bit of spare time, he can usually be found playing guitar, catching up with friends or rewatching a comedy he has seen far too many times.

• 2013: Joined RSM as an Audit Assistant.
• 2016: Qualified as a Chartered Accountant (ACA).
• 2018: Left RSM to move into industry.
• 2019: Appointed Financial Controller at Simply Cartons Ltd.
• 2020: Rejoined RSM as an Audit Manager.
• 2021: Promoted to Senior Audit Manager.
• 2024: Promoted to Associate Director and became a Responsible Individual (RI).
• 2026: Promoted to Audit Director.
• 2025: Appointed National Industry Excellence Lead for Technology & Media.
