James is an employment tax specialist in the Employer Solutions team in the North. He supports clients with all aspects of employment tax compliance and advice. He has a particular focus on HMRC inquiries, disputes, and voluntary disclosures. James also provides advice on employment tax aspects of the senior accounting officer (SAO) regime, drawing on his experience at HMRC as an employment tax inspector.
James is also a specialist in all employment tax aspects of the off payroll working rules, including Employment Status, IR35 and Agency Worker Regulations. He has particular expertise in termination payments, permanent workplace and hybrid working related issues, Construction Industry Scheme (CIS), the implementation and operation of salary sacrifice and benefits in kind.
James previously trained as an employment tax inspector at HMRC, before joining RSM in February 2021. He has a wealth of experience supporting a wide range of clients across a number of sectors, and has the ability to communicate complex issues in a straightforward manner and offer pragmatic solutions.
