Biography

Chris is a corporate tax specialist in innovation reliefs and specifically research and development (R&D) tax relief. He works across the North West and central regions, helping businesses of all sizes to understand and maximise the tax reliefs available to them for investing in innovation.

Chris Joined RSM in 2005 and worked initially in the corporate tax compliance team supporting a range of businesses from owner managed businesses to large corporates. Chris supported colleagues on advisory assignments on corporate client base before focussing on R&D tax relief and developing a specialism in this area. Chris is the head of the manufacturing sector group in the north west. He is also the Chair of Money Matters finance forum at Staffordshire Chamber of Commerce.

‘When working with clients on their R&D claims, I always focus on three key areas. Firstly, how can we ensure the claim is as robust as possible and any potential areas of challenge are mitigated. Secondly, how can we maximise the claim, such that the claimant receives the optimum benefit in their specific circumstances. Finally, how can we work with the client team to make their life as easy as possible, our aim should be to make their work easier, not add something else to their to do list.’

Outside of work Chris spends his time trying to keep pace with his wife, two young daughters, dog, and tortoise. He can generally keep up with the tortoise on a good day. Alongside this, Chris is an allotment holder, Victorian house renovator, fan of motorsport, and an awful golfer.
