Commenting on today’s announcement of a new package of support for the UK’s tech industry, David Blacher, RSM’s head of technology, media and telecommunications said:
‘It is encouraging to see that supporting the UK’s tech sector is at the top of the Government’s agenda.
‘Today’s announcement will be particularly warmly welcomed in Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Birmingham - cities which will all benefit from new funding to expand the Tech Nation initiative. This is designed to support 40,000 entrepreneurs and up to 4,000 start-ups as they scale their businesses. Scaling up at speed is particularly important in the fast-moving digital tech space, and is vital if the UK is to translate technological innovation into world-beating commercial success.
‘Our own surveys have shown that retaining access to talent post-Brexit is one of the top concerns for the tech sector. The announcement of a doubling of the number of visas available will help to allay some fears about the possible loss of skilled EU staff but this may not be enough to make a significant impact on the UK talent pool.
‘We will be watching next week’s Budget with interest to see what, if any, further support will be made available to support the UK’s all-important tech sector.’
