Leading audit, tax and consulting firm RSM UK has appointed Matthew Rose as partner to strengthen its fast-growing consulting team – marking the third partner appointment in just over a month.

Matthew will be based in RSM’s London office and joins their monitoring trustee team. He joins from international US law firm, Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, where he spent over 12 years as a UK and EU competition lawyer.

Matthew specialises in regulatory aspects of complex transactional work, working closely with regulators around the world including the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) and the European Commission on merger control matters, as well as advising on the UK’s national security regime. As part of RSM’s monitoring trustee team, he will assist clients through regulatory challenges, delivering pragmatic and workable solutions.

He has acted for clients across a broad range of industries, including digital markets, technology, energy, life sciences and defence. During his legal career, Matthew undertook an eight-month secondment at the Office of Fair Trading (now the CMA), where he provided legal advice on several competition enforcement cases.

Matthew Rose, partner at RSM UK, comments: ‘I am thrilled to join the experienced monitoring trustee team at RSM at a time when companies are facing intense regulatory scrutiny, driving a need to develop and implement increasingly innovative and complex solutions in order to satisfy regulators. I am excited to bring my background and experience as a competition lawyer to help RSM clients successfully navigate these challenges.’

Kirsty Sandwell, head of consulting at RSM UK, said: ‘Matthew is a key appointment in our growing monitoring trustee practice. He strengthens our offering across our deal services, and risk and governance solutions within consulting. When undertaking transactions, regulatory compliance can be a complex area for businesses to grasp, making it easy to get tripped up. Matthew’s in-depth knowledge of competition and regulatory law and significant hands-on experience bolsters our offering; ensuring a smooth transaction process for our clients.’

The consulting team has also recently made two other partner appointments – Joel Segal to lead the firm’s business transformation solution and Andrew Gibson in the risk and governance team.
