RSM and The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) have today announced a three-year partnership to reach more young people from diverse backgrounds and equip them to succeed in life. RSM’s support will enable the charity to get closer to its ambition to enable 350,000 young people to start their DofE every year in the UK by 2021.
A key part of the partnership is supporting the Gold DofE Award, encouraging young people in the wider community and RSM’s own young talent to start the journey to achieve their award.
RSM’s long standing support for the DofE is extensive and embedded in the culture of the organisation. Each year its employees collectively complete their own RSM DofE Challenge, pushing themselves out of their comfort zone to raise much needed funds. The annual week of activity takes place in September and coincides with the run-up to the charity’s annual DofE Adventure, a testing outward bound activity – which this year will be held in the South Downs on 21-22 September.
In the DofEs Diamond Anniversary year the organisation helped encourage over 15,000 Diamond Challengers to raise over £1 million, and last year RSM contributed to the Real Tennis Challenge fund, helping HRH The Earl of Wessex raise over £700,000 to support young people in achieving their DofE Award.
The DofE is open to everyone and RSM’s passion for closing the opportunities gap and improving social mobilty fuels the charitable partnership. The firm believes in the power of youth social action, to help young people develop the skills and qualities they need to reach their full potential and make a significant contribution to society and their local communities.
David Gwilliam, Chief Executive Officer of RSM, said:
'RSM has a strong and long-standing relationship with The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. We are extremely proud to be a strategic partner of the DofE – providing continued support to a charity that has changed the lives of so many thousands of young individuals. It is truly inspiring to see first-hand the effect that the programme can have on young people and so we are delighted to announce our renewed partnership. We also look forward to the opportunities and benefits that the DofE offers our own training programmes and young talent. It brings RSM’s teams together and reinforces our company values and culture; building recognition and solidarity, nationwide. The DofE is the bridge between academia and work life and we believe it will help young people build a prosperous future and become our future business leaders.'
David Oates, Interim Chief Executive of the DofE, added: 'The commitment and energy that RSM brings to our partnership makes it an alliance to be proud of. The DofE enhances soft skills of young people and RSM’s support signals that employers rate the added value that the DofE provides to young employees.'
