Remote working could lead to weakened cyber controls and more big data breaches

Ian Bell, RSM Head of Travel and Tourism comments: ‘Mandatory remote working may leave some businesses with weakened cyber controls during the coronavirus pandemic. Home working does not readily offer the same security safeguards as a corporate network which could be an opportunity for hackers to access customer data. We could start to see a lot more big data breaches over the coming months.

‘Coronavirus has created the perfect storm for hackers. With many customers interacting with large corporates over email to access refunds, consumers will be anticipating contact from these businesses in anticipation of getting their money back. Consumers should be extra vigilant about what information they share and organisations that handle customer data including credit card details need to ensure that all of their data end points are secure.’
