RSM’s M&A and private equity team has advised on the sale of Camden Town Brewery to Anheuser-Busch InBev, the world’s largest brewing business. The sale delivered an exceptional EBITDA and revenue multiple and placed the business in a good home for the future.
Camden Town Brewery is a leading craft beer brand known for its innovative beers including Camden Hells Lager. Started by Jasper Cuppaidge from the basement of the Horseshoe pub, Camden attracted interest from AB InBev after raising growth capital from Crowdcube in July 2015.
What RSM did
RSM led the transaction on behalf of the vendors, becoming the first advisor to exit a Crowdcube backed business. With over 2,100 retail investors and a broad shareholder group, the deal required complex commercial, legal and tax structuring. We negotiated all aspects of the deal terms and project managed the sale to completion, significantly improving AB InBev’s initial offer whilst increasing up-front consideration.
The transaction realised substantial value for all shareholders and provided capital to fund the building of a second brewery. Jasper and the remaining management also benefit from the strength of a global partner to support the continued growth and international expansion of the brand.
'My aim was to create a strong deal whilst building an even stronger bond with our new partners, ABI. The RSM team delivered on this – achieving a fantastic exit for our shareholders whilst maintaining the balance with ABI. The way the team managed the deal and our expectations was nothing short of exceptional, I almost wish I had another deal to do. Without RSM and Rob's guidance I wouldn’t have wanted to be on this adventure. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, RSM supported us the whole way!'
