The next phase of the roll-out of the EU Settlement Scheme, for resident EU citizens and their family members to obtain UK immigration status, opened on 1 November 2018. Initially focused on Liverpool and the surrounding area, the pilot will extend first to anybody employed or engaged in Higher Education (from 15 November); and then will be opened to all NHS run institutions, health care organisations, social care providers and medical bodies (from 29 November). The pilot will close on 22 December 2018. If you would like a detailed list of eligible applicants, please refer to the statement of changes in immigration rules.
What to consider?
If you are an employer in those sectors, we would recommend that you make use of the pilot in order to secure the status of your EEA workforce and reduce the risk of skills shortages and losing key workers in your organisation:
- make sure you identify who should be applying and are aware of when applications will be opened to them;
- encourage them to apply and offer support for them to do so; and
- follow-up and update your Right to Work record once the leave to remain/ pre-settled status has been granted.
