The reverse charge for building and construction services

Contractors and sub-contractors need to start preparing for reverse charge VAT accounting.

The new reverse charge for building work is due to be introduced on 1 October 2019 and will represent a fundamental change to how contractors and sub-contractors account for VAT in the construction industry. The rules are complex and will require businesses to make changes to their existing VAT accounting systems and processes.

This seminar will consider the key issues for businesses including:

  • How will the new reverse charge work?
  • What supplies of construction services will be affected?
  • Who will have to apply the reverse charge?
  • When will the reverse charge not apply?
  • What changes will need to be made to VAT accounting systems?

To help us consider the impact of the changes, we will also be joined by Harminder Kainth, Tax Manager at St. Modwen Properties Plc, who will be providing us with the benefit of her experience and insight in preparing for the new reverse charge regime.
