Name: Lucinda Foster
Job title: Assistant HR Advisor
Office: Leeds
Joining date: 23 November 2016
What do you do?
I work as part of the Yorkshire and North East Regional HR team, providing HR support to partners, managers and staff across the Leeds and Hull offices. I work closely with the HR advisors and HR managers to support the on-going development of HR within the region. I get involved in recruitment, advising on employee relation issues, disciplinary and capability meetings, engagement, reporting, training, and much more.
What’s been the highlight so far?
The highlight so far has been my promotion from HR Assistant to Assistant HR Advisor within a year of joining the firm. I knew RSM actively encourage career progression and are committed to professional development but didn’t anticipate an opportunity to be promoted to arise so early in my career. From day one I was given the support and the development opportunities I needed to progress and achieve my goal.
What’s been your biggest challenge so far?
Studying for the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) Level 7 qualification alongside working full-time has been challenging at times. However, I have found planning (and sticking to!) a revision schedule and maintaining a positive work/life balance have really helped me manage my studies.
What’s surprised you most about working at RSM?
I have always felt like I am moving forward with RSM and have been encouraged to reach my potential from the start. I was given a lot of responsibility early on and although it has been a steep learning curve I have felt supported every step of the way.
What’s next for you at RSM?
I hope to be CIPD qualified next summer and work towards becoming a HR Advisor in the near future. After that I am unsure, but as there are so many opportunities available within RSM, I am certain I will continue to develop within the firm.
What’s your top tip for someone looking to apply to RSM?
Whilst it is important to do your research and demonstrate your understanding, interviewers are not expecting you to know everything about RSM or the role you are applying for. The most important thing is to be yourself, show your commitment to the role and don’t be afraid to ask questions.
